Electric Shaver VS Razor: What’s best for you?
Electric Shaver VS Razor: What’s best for you?
The electric shaver vs razor debate continues across many workplaces and pubs, if there’s one thing that’s a constant (other than death and taxes), then it’s men needing to shave.
All men seem to figure out their own way of making the process more convenient for themselves, as it’s just one of those things that none of us can avoid but none of us love to do. However, one thing that people often do not figure out is whether they need an electric shaver or a razor.
Electric Shavers are fast (technically)
It’s simple, shaving with an electric razor takes less time, you’ll save 2 – 3 minutes by using an electric shaver, and a lot more time if you’ve gone full Gandalf during lockdown.
Controlling the length
Electric shavers offer a lot more versatility then your standard razor, some men like to have that designer stubble look, in recent years beards have become more popular than ever but its important to keep it nice and neat. Most electric razors have different trim settings while wet shave razors only have their one, baby face setting.
The Cost
Its no secret that electric shavers are more expensive than your standard razor BUT in the long run you WILL save money (and the environment)
60% of men shaving with cartridge razors are using up to 4 shaving products daily and over half are averagely spending a staggering £10 - £20 per month (on products) which averages £180 a year.
When you consider a standard razor body is £10 and if you’re changing the cartridge every week as advised, you’re looking at roughly £140 a year on cartridges alone. Overall, it’s costing more than you likely realise.
Electric shavers: 70% of men using electric shavers are using up to 4 shaving products daily. The rest just use traditional soap and water. Overall, 58% are spending under £10 per month on shaving products. Plus, they are not having to spend roughly £140 on replacement blades a year.
What about you? And the planet?
We know every person is different, from the amount of hair that grows, to the thickness and colour but ask yourself. How much could you save going electric? And what effect are disposable razors having on our planet?
In 2018 approximately 5.5 million people in the UK were using disposable razors. It doesn’t take much to work out that that is a vast amount of plastic being used and then thrown away each week. Whilst there is not any talk of banning disposable razors (in the same way that the ban on plastic straws, drinks stirrers and cotton buds has come into force recently), there really should be.
So its a win win situation, you will save money and the planet so what's your excuse?

Baking Mad! 27 million brits turned to baking during lockdown.
Food glorious food
Social distance and being stuck at home has spawned a new generation of home bakers. A survey from YouGov has revealed that 53% of brits released their inner baking skills in the first two months of lockdown.
The most popular bake during lockdown was bread with a staggering 37% of brits having a go, second most popular is cookies with 34% of people attempting this classic while only 23% baked brownies.
The survey also found baking is now popular with adults of all age ranges, with 60% of 18-24-year-olds baking during the early lockdown period, 19% of 25-34 year-olds having invested in new baking equipment, or planning to invest soon, and 47% of 35-44-year-olds saying they believe it is a good activity to do with children.
Comfort Baking
From a simple homemade bread loaf to a delicately baked cake, it's one of the ways people are coping up with the crisis that has engulfed millions across the globe. Even though the baking tips are helpful in avoiding the crowds outside, there is also a psychological reason why people are turning to baking during the lockdown. Can you guess why?
In many ways, baking and cooking have been termed to be therapeutic mediums. Think about it this way, you consciously put in efforts, spend time religiously waiting for the output and the final result is something positive to look forward to. In stressful times, this can be one of the ways you manage stress and anxiety levels.
26% say they find baking to be relaxing and therapeutic, and 40% of 18-24-year-olds say that baking has helped with their stress levels during the uncertainty of the lockdown period.
Everyone you see is baking bread or whipping up desserts and baked goods - social media has turned into a mini #masterchef competition. While the coronavirus crisis has brought out everybody's worst fears, it has also churned out an increasing number of home bakers which many didn't even know about
With another lockdown looming over the horizon, why not take this opportunity to start a new productive, family friendly hobby? (or an excuse to eat lots of cake)

Trimmer Vs. Shaver: What's the difference?
Over the last few years, men have begun to take a serious interest in grooming their hair in all types of ways! Beards, moustaches and even sideburns are trending on social media, that means there are more devices than ever, and it can be confusing to know exactly what you need for the look you want.
There are many hair removal devices available. The most widely used are electric shavers and trimmers, but a lot of men don’t know the difference. Choosing which of these two shaving devices can be confusing so we thought we would write up a quick guide to decide if you need a “trimmer” or a “shaver”.
So, what’s the difference?
Electric Trimmers
Trimmers are used to perfecting and maintaining a specific look. Trimmers are for men who want to get their beard and moustache looking just right and are willing to spend the time to achieve it. They are the best choice if you plan on keeping facial hair in line but not getting rid of it entirely. Trimmers provide the versatility to adjust hair length via the comb attachments provided.
Electric Shavers
Shaver's are used for a quick, close and painless shave. The electric shaver focuses on keeping your skin as smooth as possible but avoiding those nasty nicks and cuts. A replacement for a razor black, an electric shaver is a convenient way to to get that clean bald look.
Still confused?
Both are very effective, it is a matter of personal preference, individual needs, and shaving habits. Know your grooming requirements first, then choose the right tool for the job.
Take a look at our product range, we have a number of trimmers, shavers and multi-grooming kits (which has attachments for all).

Say bye-bye to bad hair days
Regardless of texture, colour or style, there’s one thing nearly everyone wants: hair that looks like it’s been through the hands of a salon professional every week.
Well, achieving this is not beyond the bounds of possibility as after reading this article, you will get a step closer to your dream. So, here are some tips we have put together to help you and your hair look the best it can.
You are what you eat
Just like skin (we have a blog on this too, read here), the condition of your hair is an outward sign of inside health, your hair needs a variety of nutrients to be healthy and grow in fact, many nutritional deficiencies are linked to hair loss.
Green leafy vegetables, beans, nuts, eggs and chicken are a good source of protein that assists hair growth. Fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel are packed with healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Your body can't make these healthy fats, so you have to get them from food or supplements.
Food glorious food
Wait, you’ve just mentioned diet, yes, we have. But there are some things you can do externally to help keep your hair shiny, soft, and smooth too. Who doesn’t love taking some time out to relax? Although there are many hair masks on the high street, you can make homemade ones with ingredients found in your fridge.
For example, this Whipped Avocado, Honey, and Olive Oil Deep Conditioning Hair Mask from Wholefully. All you need is 1 avocado, 2 tablespoons olive oil and 2 tablespoons honey.
Blend all ingredients in a food processor or beat them in a stand mixer until smooth and lightened in colour. Spread the mask onto damp hair, focusing on the ends. Feel free to rub it in a bit. Use a clip to pull hair into a bun on top of your head, and put on a shower cap. Heat your hair by blow-drying for 15 minutes or sitting in the sun for 30 minutes. Rinse and wash hair as usual.
Move things along
We aren’t giving any new information when we say excessive heat damages your hair, however, we also know there is nothing better than a blowdry. So how can you get the best of both worlds? When drying your hair, don't start with soaking-wet hair. Before you even start, let your hair air-dry as much as possible, or wrap it in a towel while you're getting ready.
If your hair feels hot after you blow-dry or flatiron it, that means it's still frying. If you remove a steak from the grill, it still continues to cook, and it's the same thing with heat retention from a blow-dryer, flatiron, or curling iron. Hit the cold-shot button on your dryer. The Geepas compact hairdryer has 3 heat settings and a cool shot function for frizz-free shine and limited hair damage.
So, say bye-bye to bad hair days with a healthy diet, hair mask treatments and a hairdryer from Geepas.

Decorating Tips for Beginners: Your Home Spruce-Up Guide
If you don’t know your way around a paintbrush, giving your home a much-needed spruce-up can be daunting.
But, it’s easier than you might think! The beauty of paint and decoration is that you have the chance to put your own stamp on a space, creating a look that’s entirely your own.Ready to bring your vision to life? We’re here to lend a helping hand by letting you in on our secrets. Soon, you’ll be mastering the basics in no time at all. Here are our decorating tips for beginners.
Pre-Painting Job Advice
Don’t just start throwing paint on the walls at random. A little preparation and planning will help you achieve the best possible results.Unsure where to begin? Here’s a step-by-step guide…
Clear the Room
Whether it’s the living room or a bedroom you’re painting, you’ll want an empty space. Items such as the coffee table will only get in your way, or get splattered in paint. We recommend moving everything into a different room entirely. But, if this isn’t possible, try moving it all into the middle - as far away from the walls as possible.
Check the Walls
There’s no point trying to paint over walls with holes or large cracks. Once you’ve stripped whatever paint was there before, ensure you fix any damage before going further.
Do Some Tests First
Always do patch tests. You don’t want to have your heart set on a paint colour, only to find you don’t actually like it, or it doesn’t go with the room.Particularly if you’re new to interior design, this is a must!
Choose Your Colour Wisely
When choosing the colour, play close attention to the size and lighting of the room. Certain colours can make spaces feel smaller than they area.Narrow down your selection and test them in the light, and on paper.Remember, the colour should be different depending on what room you’re painting. Here’s a rough guide to help you decide:
Bedrooms - keep tones soft and neutral
Kids’ bedrooms - try to avoid colour clashing, don’t go too bold
Kitchens - stick to classics, such as white or cream
Formal rooms - neutral blues or greens
Living rooms - neutral with pops of bold colours
Protect Your Space
Some things can’t always be removed, such as light switches and door frames. So, don’t forget to give them some protection from excess paint or drips.Masking tape is a good option, particularly for the skirting boards. Alternatively, you could use plastic bags or drop cloths.
Have Everything to Hand
Once you’ve starting painting the room, you don’t want to have to keep popping out for supplies every few minutes. So, before you begin, make sure you’ve collected everything you need so you have it to hand when you need it.From brushes to the paint roller, ensure you’ve got it all covered. This is where a tool box will come in handy!
House Painting Tips & Tricks
Ready to get the job done? These handy hints and wall painting techniques will get you started…
Mix paints into a big bucket - Even when using the same types of paint all over the walls, there can still be inconsistencies in colour. To avoid this, mix it all together into one
Avoid lap marks - Lap marks are stripes caused by uneven layers of paint. To avoid them, create a wet edge. This makes sure each stroke overlaps with the last one
Roll the full height of the wall
Don’t let the roller become dry
Paint edges and areas around windows or doors first
Use primer to remove inconsistencies
Feather paint if wet edge isn’t possible
Cut the masking tape loose once the paint is dry
Sand trim between coats
Furnishing Advice
Decorating doesn’t stop with painting the walls! Here are some helping hints for choosing and arranging your furniture:
Mix old and new decor
Create a focal point
Be clever with space
Make use of natural light
Don’t have too many empty walls
Use a measuring tape at all times!
Keep things personal e.g. photos and paintings
Choose the right bulbs

Everyone knows that February is the month of love, this doesn’t mean you have to go out and spend hundreds of pounds on presents and extravagant meals. Breakfast
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day and who doesn’t love breakfast in bed? Why not impress your love by making some blueberry and banana pancakes. They're super easy and quick to do:
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
2 cups buttermilk
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup blueberries
2 bananas, sliced lengthwise 2/3 inch thick and cut to fit the pancake
Icing sugar and maple syrup, for serving
Method
Step 1
In a small bowl, whisk the flour with the baking powder, baking soda and salt. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs with the buttermilk. Quickly stir in the flour mixture, then stir in the melted butter and blueberries.
Step 2
Switch on your pancake maker and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Ladle 1/4 cup of the batter per pancake onto the griddle, leaving room for the pancakes to spread. Gently lay one banana slice in the middle of each pancake and cook until bubbles appear on the surface, around 3 to 4 minutes. Flip the pancakes and cook until golden brown on the second side, 2 to 3 minutes longer.
Generously dust the blueberry-banana pancakes with icing sugar and serve with maple syrup and a few blueberries.
Dinner
Because nothing says I love you like a lovely 3-course meal, we have put together what we think is a simple yet very romantic menu, starting with oysters (of course) a seared duck main and finish off with an indulgent chocolate pudding. Yumm.
Starter - cooked oysters with burnt butter
Ingredients
8 rock oysters, scrubbed clean
800 g rock salt
40 g unsalted butter
Tabasco sauce
½ a lemon
Method
Step 1
Preheat your oven to the highest it goes. Place the rock salt into an ovenproof frying pan, then pop in the oven to preheat for around 20 minutes, before carefully placing the oysters on top and returning to the oven for 10 minutes.
Step 2
Meanwhile, melt the butter in a frying pan over medium heat, then cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until it turns a deep golden colour and starts to sizzle. Add a few drops of Tabasco to taste, then remove from the heat and add a squeeze of lemon juice, swirling the pan until combined. Put the pan to one side.
Step 3
Insert an oyster knife or a blunt knife into the oyster, then carefully lever it open – beware of the hot steam! Discard the oyster tops, then place the bottom shells with the oyster on a platter, drizzle over the burnt butter and serve straightaway.
Main - seared duck with ginger mash
Ingredients
25g fresh ginger
1 small orange, zested and the juice of half
340g duck breasts, skin removed and halved lengthways
160g sweet potatoes, peeled and thickly sliced
125g potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
2 tsp rapeseed oil
1 onion, halved and thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
160g broccoli florets
160g Brussels sprouts, peeled
1 tsp vegetable bouillon powder
few leaves fresh parsley or coriander (optional)
Method
Step 1
Cut 4 thin slices of the ginger and shred, then finely grate the remainder. Rub ¼ tsp each grated ginger and orange zest into the duck breasts, then grind over plenty of black pepper and set aside. Put both types of potato into a steamer and cook for 15 mins until tender. Transfer to a bowl and add the remaining grated ginger, then blitz with a hand blender until smooth. Cover and keep warm.
Step 2
Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan. Add the onion, garlic and shredded ginger and fry for 5 mins until softened and starting to turn golden. Push the onions to one side, add the duck and cook for 8 mins, turning frequently and stirring the onions occasionally. Lift the duck out of the pan and put on a plate to rest.
Step 3
Add the broccoli and sprouts into the steamer and cook for 8 mins until tender. Meanwhile, make the sauce. Add 150ml water, ½ tsp orange zest and the bouillon to the onion mixture and bubble to a sauce, then remove from the heat and add the orange juice.
Step 4
Smear the ginger mash onto two warmed plates and top with the duck. Spoon over the onions and drizzle over the sauce. Scatter with the parsley or coriander, if using, and serve with the broccoli and sprouts.
Dessert - indulgent chocolate pudding
Ingredients
150g plain chocolate, broken into pieces
115g butter
2 large eggs
100g caster sugar
1tsp vanilla extract
25g plain flour
Method
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas Mark 5. Grease four ovenproof cups or ramekin dishes with softened butter.
Step 2
Place the chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl (add a pinch of chilli here if you want a spicy chocolate middle) set over a pan of simmering water and leave until melted. Remove from the heat and stir until smooth.
Step 3
Whisk the eggs, sugar and vanilla extract in a bowl using an electric whisk until very thick and pale. Fold in the chocolate mixture. Sift over the flour and fold in gently.
Step 4
Divide the mixture between the cups or ramekins. Place on a baking tray and bake for 12-15 mins until risen and almost set – the puds should still have a slight wobble to the touch. Serve immediately.
So get your apron on and impress your loved one, it is Valentines Day after all.
